First aid activity is one activity that can teach us to be helpful and patient for helping the different response from many patients in urgent condition. For example, a girl is injured, but at that time there are no materials and tools for helping her. In this condition, we can use our clothes to cover the injury. Another example is choking. Choking occurs when a foreign object becomes lodged in the throat or windpipe, blocking the flow of air. Choking cuts off oxygen to the brain and can lead to death. How to help a choking person? The ways stand behind the choking person, wrap your hands around his waist, bend the person slightly forward, clench one of your hands and put at the top of the navel of the victim, hold it tight fist with your other hand and press firmly toward the abdomen with quick upward, as if to lift it off the floor, it will lift the diaphragm, press the lungs, and force air out of the lungs, and repeat this action until the food or
other blockage out. These examples prove that Youth Red Cross is very educative and do not underestimate the little things around us.
Not only that, the activities of Youth Red Cross teach us to cooperate with other members such as ‘Ketangkasan Tandu’, a competition for learning how to evacuate the victims of natural disaster or accident. ‘Pendidikan Remaja Sebaya’, a competition to add our skill, and courage to perform in front of many people, and ‘Cepat Tepat’, a competition to add our knowledge. Those competitions need a good teamwork, because without good teamwork, the activities will not run smoothly. A group competition with good teamwork will run smoothly and make the members of the Youth Red Cross closer, respect each other, and response each other. Those competitions are beneficial for us, because all of the competitions can teach us how to face problems in our lives.
Youth Red Cross is also one of the medias to add friends. Usually, a school will hold ‘Latgab’ (Latihan Gabungan) with other Youth Red Cross. We can get many benefits from this activity. Not only strengthen relationships with other Youth Red Cross, but also getting more knowledge. Besides practicing together, Indonesia Red Cross always hold ‘Jumbara’ (Jumpa, Bakti, Gembira) which is held annually. It is divided into Jumbara district, regional and national where the implementation depends on the ability of the local Indonesia Red Cross. Jumbara gives many benefits as practicing together, but the range of Jumbara area is larger than practicing together. Jumbara is held in three days and two nights with filled with a variety of interesting activities. Every member has different activities each day that will not make him/her bored. This activity also gives awards in the form of trophies for the schools or teams who get the highest points for three days. But, although not getting any trophies from this activity, it will not make us feel disappointed, because we can still get the importance of togetherness. It means, those activities very interesting for the members of Youth Red Cross.
So, Youth Red Cross is an extracurricular that can give many benefits for students. Such as first aid activity, cooperate with the other members of Youth Red Cross, and one of the medias to add friends. Those benefits are one complete package for good extracurricular.
